Plantain Patoli

Aratikaya Patoli
Ingredients:
Plantain 2
Moong Dal 1/2 cup
Whole Red Chillies 4
Ginger 1 1/2 inch piece
Turmeric Powder a big pinch
Salt to taste
Talimpu:
Urad Dal 1 tsp
Mustard Seeds 1 tsp
Cumin Seeds 1 tsp
Curry Leaves 8
Oil 2 tbsps
Method of preparation:
Remove ends and then the skin of the plantains.
Chop into small pieces and soak them in cold water until needed.
Peel and roughly chop ginger.
Remove ends and break dried red chillies.
Soak moong dal in water for 1/2 hour to 1 hour.
Grind the soaked moong dal, red chillies, ginger and salt into somewhat coarse paste adding little water.
Heat oil in a pan, add all talimpu ingredients in order.
When urad dal changes color, add chopped plantain, turmeric powder and salt.
Sprinkle some water and cook closed on medium flame for 5-10 minutes or until the plantain becomes soft.
When plantain pieces becomes soft and almost mushy, add ground moong dal paste.
Stir thoroughly and mash some of the plantain.
Remove from heat when almost all the moisture is gone.
Serve with rice and ghee.
Notes: Make sure plantain is well cooked.
